Family plans

Indoor family plans for hot or rainy days

Compare library sessions, science exhibits and art museums, with the age, booking and access checks that matter.

Source-based planning guide · Checked October 18, 2026

Start with the kind of visit you want: a short library session, hands-on science, or time looking at art. These options include Orlando, Winter Park and other Orange County locations. Check the exact program and admission rules before leaving; an indoor venue does not make every activity suitable for every age.

01

Choose the library session, then the branch

Orange County Library System offers storytimes for babies, toddlers and preschoolers, alongside activities for older children. Many basic storytimes list no registration, while technology classes can require it. Events are generally free, with exceptions; classes can have cardholder, fee or materials rules. Check the selected listing rather than assuming every session is a free drop-in.

Winter Park Library is a separate system. Its children’s programs include early-literacy sessions and school-age activities, with advance registration and cardholder priority on the reviewed listings. Confirm the branch or room, who must register, and whether an adult stays with the child. A library calendar can also include outdoor or online events.

Pick the right part of the Science Center

Orlando Science Center offers indoor exhibit halls and a dedicated KidsTown area. The museum describes KidsTown for ages seven and under, with separate spaces for younger children. It can be a mixed-age option, but that is an editorial fit suggestion: use the venue’s age guidance for the activity you choose.

General admission is paid. Online tickets are available; walk-in entry depends on availability, and parking can add to the cost. The museum publishes reduced-admission eligibility rules rather than a universal discount. Its access page also lists nursing lounges and a baby-changing room. Check current visit rules before packing a large stroller, wagon or outside food.

Try an art visit when looking is the activity

The Morse Museum in Winter Park is a gallery option rather than a hands-on play space. A looking-and-talking visit may suit school-age children; this is our editorial suggestion, not a minimum-age rule. Children under twelve receive free admission, while adults generally pay.

The gallery rules matter for family logistics: artworks cannot be touched, and food, drinks and large bags are restricted. Only umbrella strollers may be allowed when space permits; ask Visitor Services. Seasonal free evenings and special family programs have their own dates, so do not assume a general free-entry offer applies to your visit.

Check the exact Mennello program

The Mennello Museum’s galleries host Music and Story Time for young children. The program describes its audience without a numeric age cutoff. Member and nonmember admission differ, so read the current session page before deciding.

Its Free Family Funday is a separate scheduled art program. The published information does not establish that every art activity takes place indoors. Keep that distinction in mind when rain is the reason for your trip, and ask the museum about the session location, capacity and any registration requirement.

Make the last check before you leave

Pick one main stop and look at its current calendar, ticket page and closure notices. Confirm the address and return journey, especially when comparing Orlando with Winter Park or another municipality. An event appearing in a calendar does not establish that registration is still available.

For an outing with a baby or a specific access need, ask about the facilities you will actually use: stroller storage, a changing space, feeding arrangements and the route into the activity. Where a venue has not documented those details, we leave them unconfirmed instead of inferring them from a family-friendly label.
